Anybody remember the 2003 PGA Championship won by Shaun Micheel? "Shaun who," you ask? With a one shot lead on 18, he almost holed out his 7-iron from the rough, leaving it just two inches for the win!
Mr. Micheel had one of these Cleveland Launchers in his bag that weekend. Of course, this driver is really designed for the mid to high handicappers rather than for PGA pros. The reason is in its tremendous forgiveness and maxed-out spring effect. The huge 460cc head has an increased moment of inertia which increases your distance on off-center hits.
The coolest thing about the driver is the spring effect or trampoline effect. USGA stipulates the maximum C.O.R. (Coefficient of Restitution) to be .830. The Cleveland Launcher 460 conforms to this, actually meeting it precisely.
I would recommend this driver for all levels, but more for the golfer who is less consistent off the tee and looking for a club that will be long and forgiving as opposed to responsive and workable. For a driver that is more tour designed, I like the Callaway FT-9 Tour Driver. It still has the modern, large head, but with a toned-down sound and responsive workability.
